Expansion of Production Capacity
This key production facility helped double Thermo Fisher’s commercial capacity for viral vectors. The increase in production supported the company in meeting growing demand for the development and manufacturing of gene therapies and vaccines. The estimated investment for the expansion was $180 million.
Facilities and Features of the Plainville Site
The Plainville site includes:

- A pilot lab for process development, process transfer, and scale-up

- 11 cGMP production areas for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs)

- An in-house engineering lab for the development of turnkey production systems, facilitating customer transitions to commercial operations
